Previously I have only posted about R3HAB’s remixes on the blog (Icona Pop, Caroline Romano.) Whereas today I’m spotlighting a crossover dance track from the Dutch/Moroccan, DJ/Producer. The track, “Am I The Only One” is a collaboration with Astrid S and HRVY. (Two of pop’s prominent emerging artists who have both been notably climbing up the ladder during the past few years.) My reason for singling this release out, I think you will find the track is probably more artful than you’d expect an EDM/dance-pop release to be.
Both Astrid S and HRVY are no strangers to collaborating with other artists or jumping on DJ/Producer work. Between them, they’ve racked up features with Matoma, NOTD, SEEB, Jonas Blue as well as working with R3HAB previously. (“Favourite Part Of Me” – Astrid S, “Be Okay” HRVY). Linking up with the DJ on “Am I The Only One” sees both the rising artists bringing contrasting styles of pop artistry to the song’s thoughtfully arranged, vibey production.
The lyrical side of “Am I The Only One” will hit home for anyone who has ever experienced a prospective relationship fall apart from a lack of vulnerability. Astrid S with her sweet, airy Norwegian voice, brings touches of light and softness. While, HRVY introduces dreamy, smooth, soulful tones upon the track. The singer’s vocal rallies give a unique guy-and-girl perspective on a relationship. While they are opening up with their emotions, questioning and figuring out where they go from here. With a little bit of persuasion, they are at least talking.
Because of the strong pop vibe, I would definitely describe the track as potential, chart fodder. Even though HRVY is the only one in this collaboration to previously chart on the UK Official Singles chart with top 75 placings. His current participation on the BBC TV flagship programme “Strictly Come Dancing” together with him proving to be a good dancer. Means he is gaining a ton of new fans week by week which also bodes well, in terms for the equal future success of this track and HRVY’s debut album “Can Anybody Hear Me?” out 20th November.
“Am I The Only One” gives the listener something for the ear, the mind and the dance floor. Together with highlighting new talents, you might not know about, but certainly need to discover.
