Back in 2012, electronic music legends BT and Christian Burns banded together to form a superduo called All Hail The Silence and put out their first taster track “Looking Glass” as a free download here on EQ Music.
Ever since then, we’ve been waiting patiently for our first taste of their mega collaboration, but it’s all been a little quiet and a bit of slow burn for All Hail The Silence. Rightfully so too, both artists are massively busy in their own solo careers but they did take the time to perform together at Burning Man and also went out on the road for a bit with Erasure in the states.
And then very quietly, over the Christmas holiday, All Hail The Silence released their debut “AHTS” EP to the world which you can listen to now on Spotify. I only found about it via a late night tweet from Christian himself and just like that, I knew what I’d be listening to the next morning.
I have to say – this EP was well worth the wait. Somethings in life you just can’t hurry and it’s quite evident from the meticulous production on this record that every little sound, sample, vocal and orchestration was executed with the goal of sheer perfection in mind. Nothing that BT releases is ever half thought-out and every time I listen to “AHTS” I’m picking up on new sounds that are enveloped cleverly throughout the tracks – quite frankly, it’s all just blowing my mind.
Opening track “The Alarm” is probably the most commercial and singleworthy, but peppered with the very Depeche Mode sounding “Looking Glass” and the nebulous “Broken Satellite”, you can bet there is a lot to discover in just these first four debut tracks.
I want more. I’m craving it now. I want to listen to this incredible new music on the best studio monitors possible to experience every nanosecond of this audio delicacy. I just hope that it’s not another four years before we get another EP as I’d love to see something like a tour with BT and Christian Burns together performing their “AHTS” tracks as well as their own greatest hits.
