The summer edition of our “This Beat Is Poptronik” playlist on Spotify was brimming from top to bottom with stellar examples of electronic pop by some of the most promising emerging artists breaking out on the new music scene. If you were a new act and deemed hot and happening by us in the first six months of the year, there was a huge possibility that you would make it onto this playlist. One of the more quirky tunes that featured came from Australian producer Donatachi with his cybertronic amalgamation of K-pop and chip-tune on the track “In Rotation“, with Gustine. The song features nearing the end of the playlist but, always stopped me in my tracks when it started up.
The out-of-box thinking producer is back with a follow up to the summer success of “In Rotation“. In true Donatachi style the track “Take Me“, featuring the vocal of Texan, pop newcomer Kady Rain is frenetic upbeat and resides on the bright side of EDM production. The press release tells me, the summer vibes were inspired none-other by the romance of Ryan Atwood and Marissa Cooper, from the hit 2000’s television show The OC. Donatachi adds, “Ryan and Marrissa are a true romance story for the ages. Their relationship was so erratic; I wanted the production to reflect this as literally as possible with a dynamic 2 step beat.”
I like how the DIY approach to production feels way more authentic than a major label signed producers slick output. All of Donatachi’s tracks, are strong and exhibit originality and uniqueness. He’s a game changer with a skill of forward-thinking, futuristic sound. It’s a true talent and individuality like this that will define the next breakthrough production act. Donatachi is up there as one of the most exciting new production propositions I’ve heard in a long while.
