It’s not so often that I share an acoustic version of a track which I have previously written, about. When I heard the stripped back version of “Somber” from Stockholm duo Violet Days and LA-based singer-songwriter Morgxn, it’s prettiness ensured there was no question that I’d let it slip through the net. The recorded edit of the track is dreamy with an elegant grace allowing both vocalists to add emotive intensity and an achingly pretty, warmth wrapped into the song (check it out here, along with my review.) If it were at, all, possible the stripped back version is even more ringing with pure emotion.

This new spin, on the track, has been filmed as a companion music video which I am hazarding, a guess was more than likely filmed when the artists were out in Austin for SXSW. In the clip, Kris sits in the background around a simple set up of a keyboard and an electric guitar. In the foreground, Lina and Morgxn stand with their backs to one another as they sing a most stunning rendition of the song. It is something of sheer beauty, and full, of passion, especially when the vocal harmonies of Lina and Morgxn blend and complement each other so well, that I began to feel, my heart race as if it were to leap out of my chest, at any given moment.

What more can I say, about two people in a room singing so, perfectly, that I’m just, sitting back dying here when Morgxn comes in, with his falsetto notes. It’s special.

I can only, imagine what a treat it was for Raj here at EQ and Javi to see Morgxn belt out a selection of his, own tracks when they were out at SXSW recently. If you haven’t already, you need to peep the review, live footage and insightful interview with the singer-songwriter sensation, pronto.
