Ever since the Eurovision Song Contest finale drew to a close this year, we have only seen a slow trickle of European music acts venture out beyond their home territory. With Scandinavia as one of the main providers, with a staple crop of new artists in Alma, Sigrid and Dagny and France making an impression with Jain.
Belgium is now making me sit up and listen. They have an emerging pop talent named Amery who has just released his second single “I Need Lovin’“. As easy listening tracks go, the feel good, electronic pop disposition comes up to the grade. A nod to the 80’s with influence coming from Michael Jackson and Marvin Gaye in evidence. “I Need Lovin’” is pouring out instant sunshine with a touch of exotic breeziness.
I never knew Belgium was this sunny, seems I’ve been wrong all along. Amery is putting me straight about this with the slick and effervescent nature of his latest song.
