Last year, more than ever we here at EQ couldn’t get enough of the new music coming from one of our favourite pop artists, Betty Who. We had the pleasure of catching up with her at SXSW at her showcase and for a chat. Even so, we still hadn’t had enough Betty Who in our life. We had the pleasure of having her headline EQ Music Live Presents, last May and, believe it or not, the following evening Raj and I partied with Betty and the Who Crew again, as she took her amazing, show to The Great Escape festival in Brighton.
Last week we had a sneaky listen to a new song, “Ignore Me” which is released today. The song is classic pop hearted Betty Who, in-keeping with the style of her mega-hit “Somebody Loves You“. It shouldn’t then come as any surprise that main co-writer / collaborator Peter Thomas, has worked on the song as well as Brett McLaughlin (co-songwriter of Troye Sivan and Allie X) or Leland to give him his artist name. Releasing a statement on Facebook Betty Who had this to say about the song. “Ignore Me“, will be my first song released as an independent artist in five years. Every decision made was mine, every detail was agonised over, and every last bit of my heart is in this song. I can finally put out music the way I’ve always wanted to: straight from me to you.”
So it seems, she’s free from a record label and going it alone once more, but wait a minute the sunshine gal is never alone, she has the adoring, Who Crew and I just, know “Ignore Me” has all the characteristics of becoming a new fan favourite, in no time at all. Girl makes life drama sound so, sweet in this song. Don’t get me wrong Betty makes her intentions clear she, lays her rules on the line in no uncertain terms. The lyrics are, sung with authority but are nonetheless a familiar Betty Who kind of, dreamy.
