Just a few days ago I was perusing through my local newspaper when an advertisement for the Sundown Festival caught my attention. There nestled among the names on the lineup, well actually tucked right under headliners Craig David and Rag’n’Bone Man, I was delighted to see John Galea’s name crop up. As champions of the singer-songwriter down the years, I couldn’t be more chuffed John has secured such a prestige spot at a festival which grows in popularity year by year.
Since we first began writing about John many years ago, there has been a shift in sound, these days we are more likely to find him plonked behind a piano but on occasion, he still mixes it up with a taste of pop attitude.
Currently promoting his “Missing Pages” EP, John has on board the one and only Mr Frankmusik as a collaborator. They worked on two of the EP tracks “Burnt Confetti” and “Honesty“, the latter is now being promoted as the new single. John’s vocal has taken on a rather soulful quality on this song which I feel noticeably shares some roots forged in the soulful house mix which came to the fore back in the day, by the likes of CeCe Peniston’s seminal hit “Finally“. You will pick up on this in the back beat of the song.
John Galea’s confident drive, determination and all round musicianship are getting him noticed at last. I sincerely hope there’s somebody on team Galea working on servicing “Honesty” to the clubs because this is where it needs to be blow up best.
