As with every beginning of every New Year, it takes a few days for January to return to normalcy and life, in general, to get back into its stride. I had this firmly in mind when I became bombarded with last-minute press releases during the last few working days in December and thought it would be wisest not to drop a tonne load of music all at once but, to steadily keep things ticking along updating you, the EQ readers with consistently good music releases. I’ve had the track “Fresh Blood” by STAL on the back-burner for longer than it deserves. The lyrics permeate around a theme of newness and feeling alive and, I thought it would be just the thing to get us on the right track, as we start anew in the year 2018.

STAL is the artist name of Pierre-Marie Maulin, a well-heeled pop musician who is most known as a member of M83‘s, touring band. He has been recording and releasing music under this name since 2011, has toured with acts like Nothing But Thieves and Matt & Kim. And, to add to the list of glowing facts, I have it on good, authority, STAL became the first ever band to release a music video set entirely in a virtual reality world, for the single “Gone“.

The current single “Fresh Blood“, is awash with uplifting, synths, full-on effervescent, attitude and pop-culture inspired lyrics. Both the catchy melody and eloquent, alluring lyrics have a tendency, to stick in the mind. The song is a definite crowd pleaser and, is styled with a sound of heartwarming pep and, verve. It is primed, for impending, festival domination.
