If anyone is looking for an early prediction from me as to who I’d tip to receive some recognition in the end of year tastemaker polls, I can tell you now that I’d be rather pleased to see Manchester funktronic outfit Shy Luv hauling up some nods.

What I know at first hand about Shy Luv after catching their set at The Great Escape recently, is that they cut it up live. They were so fly to the point of soaring and wherever their breezy freestyled beats were taking us that Saturday night, the whole room was transported to a magical disco land nirvana as the slinky tunes enabled us to lose our inhibitions and the urgency to dance took hold.

I don’t see that Shy Luv are just another party band, they are cooler than carrying that label. But, they sure know how to deliver groovy tunes that will eek a dance move out of you before you realise. This is the pattern which I see emerging anyways and new single “First Fires” (featuring the vocals of Amber Simone) keeps to the ongoing Shy Luv trend, giving it smooth, funky with a nu-retro futuristic spin on old skool disco.
