Jacques Greene blew my mind today. The 21 year old producer from Montreal has been making a huge splash in electronic music. Since his 2011 debut, he has released 4 solo EPs and several singles. He is one of the most unpredictable producers I have heard. Today I fell in love with the track, “(Baby I Don’t Know) What You Want.” The smooth dance song samples “Foolish” by Ashanti and is available on the “Night Slugs Allstars, Vol. 1” compilation.

The emerging electronic star illustrated his best work in “The Look.” The 4 track mix is an r&b inspired dance album that creates a flashback to the 90s Chicago house scene. Jacques Greene’s ability to gracefully combine nontraditional samples into house music is comparable to production by popular 90s DJ, Mark Farina. I am overjoyed to learn that contemporary electronic artists are still inspired by the sound of classic house music.

Jacques Greene has remixed songs for a list of artists including Radiohead and Katy B. The busy newcomer is currently on his winter tour playing shows in popular cities in the US and Canada. In 2012 Jacques premiered the acid house track, “Ready.”  He recently created a free playlist for the music blog FADER.
