Premise: This is the somewhat autobiographical story of Shia LaBeouf as told through the lens of director Alma Har’el starring Lucas Hedges, Noah Jupe and Shia himself.
Why I liked it: Seriously, can Shia LaBeouf do no wrong as an actor these days? With runaway indie hit The Peanut Butter Falcon doing so well, Shia is on-a-roll with his slate of films this year.
With a touching and quirky storyline about the trials and tribulations of being a child actor, Honey Boy offers us a rare look into the life moments that define us. The chemistry of this delicate story is absolutely spot-on with Shia LaBeouf and director Alma Har’el as the storytelling expertly unfolds into an intriguing narrative that leaves you wishing more film was of this caliber.
The casting of Lucas Hedges as young-adult Shia, and Noah Jupe as boy actor Shia couldn’t have been any more perfect either. With a superior cast and a true belief in the source material, all involved in this modern-day masterpiece should feel very proud of the work done here. You’ll be hard-pressed not to enjoy this wonderful piece of film.
UK and US release date: Out now in the US and released theatrically in the UK on December 6th.
