While most people are anxiously waiting for Beyonce‘s upcoming album her little sister Solange has been creating a huge buzz in the independent music scene. When 2012 ended all eyes and ears were on the hit single, Losing You. The spotlight continued for the singer-songwriter with the help of her critically acclaimed True EP which made the hipster-chic fashionista a notable name in the indie-pop genre. Suddenly, Solange was everywhere performing at small venues in Brooklyn to large stages at popular summer music festivals. She appeared alongside bands like MGMT, The Dirty Projectors, Vampire Weekend and Grizzly Bear.
Solange usually pens songs exclusively for her Destiny’s Child sisters, but this year she will lend her talent to other artists. She is set to release a compilation album later this year on her own label Saint Records. The album titled, Saint Heron will arrive Novemeber 12. The lead single features LA newcomer Kelela. Saint Heron which brings Solange back to the contemporary R&B sound will also feature BC Kingdom, Sampha, Jade De La Fluer and Solange herself. It may not be the full length Solange record we were waiting for, but I am certain it will deliver.
As for the next Beyonce record, singer/producer Pharrell Williams said to Billboard, “B’s album is crazy. Let me tell you what it is. She’s very particular. She’s a Virgo. And she’s not going to put it out until it’s ready and feels like it’s right to her. She’s got a very specific taste. I guess that’s the reason she’s Beyonce.” I guess the Knowles are planning to take over both Top 40 and independent charts. Go girls!
