On 8 April, Eurovision released the running order of the semifinals to the general public. Now, from eighteen different artists, they could have just picked about anyone to open up the show. To open up is a big deal. You set the tone for everyone to follow you. This year, Eurovision may have picked the perfect choice to lift 2016’s contest to unimaginable heights with Finland’s entrant Sandhja and her single ‘Sing it Away.’

What delivers a better opening to Eurovision than a song that showcases the power of music? When you’re feeling terrible, turn on some music; you’ll feel better in no time. Sandhja delivers that message loud and clear with her single ‘Sing It Away.’.
When the song opens up, you feel every little terrible emotion that would encompass the human psyche on a bad day.  A heavy piano begins to pick up and carry you into what is a true modern-disco influenced track.

“When you feel like your world is falling down, and darkness has taken your side, there’s no need to be carrying a frown, I’ll help you sing it out tonight!”

It’s as if she is singing right to your soul. Then the horns kick in and takes you to a full blown dance pace. When you’re having a bad day, go ahead leave it on the dance floor.

Along with the song came a video that really depicts what love is all about. When the people in video are feeling down, they’re brought up back to a smile with the help of a caring individual. Full of dancing and emotion, the video for ‘Sing It Away’ really shows you multiple options how Sandhja can take it to the Eurovision stage. With that fierce disco power and Kiesza-like voice, it looks like Finland made an amazing choice when sending Sandhja to Stockholm.

We’ll have to see how she opens it up on May 10th. Until then, stay tuned to EQ Music for more Eurovision coverage.
