I was listening to Stockholm based Artist/DJ duo Wesy over the weekend. They sent over their latest track “Back To Love” for me to listen to. Their email made me realise that my daily lockdown, music diet, hasn’t consisted of listening to much EDM. This is not so surprising as it sounds, to be honest. As I mostly consume the EDM strand of electronica in moderation anyways. Every so often my curiosity piques when a new act peeps up on my radar, none more so when learning of an emerging Swedish outfit.

Delving in on Wesy’s current release “Back To Love” was a pleasurably uplifting experience. Which enlivened my music senses after scouring through my even more voluminous than usual Friday mailbag. I stopped on Wesy’s submission because believe it or not they were approaching me with something other than an in-isolation release. And I feel that maybe now is the time that we move away from those kinds of tracks. Bring energies into focus, renew our vigour and build our confidence to take on the new challenges which lie ahead, in the new reality which is being shaped because of COVID-19.

Although, I sadly can’t see a full-blown, sweaty, club gig taking place in the immediate future. It doesn’t mean that these huge, endorphin inducing tracks should be shelved for a later date. If anything, feel-good grooves with an upbeat presence are kind of lacking from tracks being written and recorded while in lockdown. I am convinced that with some thought, a way will be found so that the party times can continue on. Wesy with their big electrifying sounds and techno tendencies, incorporate a personable style of lyrical storytelling within their works. They are not all about tailoring bouncy melodies. There is some real soul-searching, thoughts about life being addressed, and woven into their big room bangers. Can the same be said about Basshunter? I’ll let you make up your own minds about that.
