A few days ago, I was sent in the new Lastlings single to review. Upon checking out the track “Last Breath“. I was grabbed by the duo’s grasp of experimental, dance electronica that I decided, I needed to learn more of the Australian indie-electronic duo’s material. But, more especially because they have been putting out track releases for a few years, now. The Gold Coast-based brother/sister duo and former winners of Triple J Unearthed – ‘Falls Festival’, straddles both dreamy and sonically brooding soundscapes. With song-crafting, so impeccable, I am left wondering how I’ve not heard about them before.
It is wholly, nice to hear some serious, electronica which is emotive, forward-thinking and sonically expansive. The Lastlings prior releases cover both single and EP efforts, starting out very young they are still regarded as being on the rise. Their debut album is slated to arrive this year. So I think I am still within the boundary of presenting the duo as emerging artists, on EQ Music Blog.
It makes better sense to first cast an ear over the duo’s releases of recent months, like the big dance vibes of “Deja Vu” and the sonically gleaming allure of “I’ve Got You“.
To show the world, Lastlings is not invested in only the one dynamic. They have brought out a darker, brooding, offering with “Last Breath“. Far from the tracks, obvious heart-rending sentiment, the piece seals their serious intent as a band. Lead singer Amy Dowdle’s, haunting yet airy light voice powerfully makes an impression. While brother Josh, sense of sonic adventure delivers stunning, otherworldly, dreamy results. Here there is a musical dexterity and ability which makes them stand out from the crowd. The Lastlings, restless creativity and refusal to do the expected, makes the most recent effort, “Last Breath” an exhilarating find.
Delving deeper into the bands already impressive catalogue of tracks I was treated to an airy musical trip I never wanted to end. Lastlings were pretty instant for me, and if you are also left craving more, I urge you to check them out via their social links below. Ones to watch.
