I have to admit, I approached the Seanna Pereira debut EP, “Love Department,” in a rather unconventional way. Instead of reading through the accompanying press release and learning about her impressive résumé across film and television, I in fact, did the exact opposite. I hit play first, determined to let the songs introduce the artist before anything else shaped my expectations. As it turns out, that instinct couldn’t have served me better.

The six-track collection is a beautifully realised snapshot of young adulthood, exploring love, uncertainty and self-discovery with refreshing emotional honesty. At only 21 years old, Seanna possesses the kind of songwriting instinct that many artists spend years trying to develop. There’s vulnerability in her lyrics, confidence in her delivery and an unmistakable understanding of what makes contemporary pop so compelling.

It’s easy to understand why listeners have drawn comparisons to Sabrina Carpenter and Tate McRae. Those influences are certainly present in the sleek production and emotionally charged storytelling. However, Seanna never feels like she’s following someone else’s blueprint. Instead, she brings her own personality to every song, creating a debut that feels polished, genuine and completely self-assured.

Ironically, I approached this release in reverse. Only after immersing myself in the EP did I revisit previously released tracks “Options,” “Arsonist” and “Chemistry,” before finally reading about Seanna’s background. If anything, that unusual listening journey strengthened my appreciation. Without any outside expectations, “Love Department” impressed me purely on the strength of its songwriting, production and vocal performances.

There’s every reason to believe this EP will resonate with audiences on both sides of the Atlantic. Its sophisticated pop production, relatable themes and radio-ready hooks give it genuine international appeal. The title track, “Love Department,” in particular, feels like the kind of song that deserves to travel far beyond streaming playlists. It also leaves me hoping that Seanna secures some major tour support opportunities in the near future—she would feel perfectly at home opening for an artist like Gracie Abrams, for instance.

There’s little doubt Seanna Pereira has the talent to make waves across both music and screen, but on the strength of “Love Department”, it’s her artistry as a pop musician that’s commanding my full attention. Debut releases are meant to introduce an artist; the exceptional ones leave you wondering how on earth they aren’t already a household name. That’s exactly the feeling Seanna leaves me with.
