However, with her brand new single “PLM,” the London/Barcelona-based artist feels like she’s stepping into a noticeably bolder, more emotionally open era — and honestly, it suits her.
Following the momentum of her well-received EPs “Girl Becomes” and “Viva Venus”, “PLM” lands as her first new release since spring 2025. Sonically, it swirls between dark electronic pop and disco-leaning shimmer, while emotionally it sits right in that sweet spot LALA does so well — vulnerable, self-aware and quietly powerful. Speaking on the release of her new single, LALA HAYDEN said:
“I wrote this song shortly after finding out I was pregnant. It wasn’t planned, and I was overwhelmed by two opposite emotions at once – so much love and so much fear.
More specifically, she elaborates…
“I worried that becoming a mother meant giving something up – that there’d be no room left for dreaming. Then I remembered that music is my medicine. Becoming a mother doesn’t mean I stop singing and dancing – I need it now more than ever. This song is love and fear, freedom and captivity, confidence and doubt. Mother & child.“
Importantly, this feels like natural evolution rather than a pivot. LALA has always made music that lives equally in headphones and on dancefloors. Here, she just sounds more certain of her voice, and more willing to let complexity exist inside pop structure.
