I am delighted to share the news of the latest single release from London-based singer-songwriter-producer Dylan and the Moon. Although I should mention I am as equally moved by Dylan’s touching story behind his music releases.
“Dylan Holloway AKA Dylan And The Moon rose to fame competing on the X Factor many moons ago, before making history in 2023 as the first and only trans winner of a BBC Music show, Project Icon”. – The press release informs.
However, I need to fill EQ readers in… when appearing on the X Factor, he was part of the urban hip-hop duo MK1. Back then, he presented as Charlie (or Lots Holloway). It wasn’t until years later that Lots transitioned to Dylan. Furthermore, documented the process using his online social media platforms. His inspiring actions spotlighted incredibly moving duets recorded between Dylan and his pre-transition self. Namely, through reworks of previous Lots Holloway releases amounting to male/female duets, created through using the singer’s own voice.
Today under the moniker Dylan and the Moon, he unleashes the track “Bones.” A searing slice of hook-heavy indie-pop, exploring the themes of infatuation and passion within a relationship. The track appears on the debut EP “Mosaic,” due out on October 11th.
Furthermore, speaking about the EP Dylan comments…
“Each song tells the story of the euphoria of meeting someone new, and that feeling of falling madly in love, running away together, and then the pain and paranoia of falling madly out of love again, being left with just memories and questions.”
With the EP, the musicality has shifted somewhat from previous works, a highly melodic alt-pop vibe is present thus far. Whereas Dylan’s lyrical prowess continues to shine out. Evidently makes it clear he is very much a personable and relatable all-round talent to watch out for.
Moreover, in all my time of music blogging, I have not come across a story as powerful as Dylan’s. What an inspiration he is!
Dylan and the Moon is set to perform a headline show at The Old Blue Last in London on October 26th, tickets are available here.
