Evan Blair

If you are setting out to make your mark in pop, what better time to do so than as we head into summer. The season perfect for unabashed pop realness really comes alive under the gaze of clear blue seas and skies.

2015 as such, was the breakout year of Joe Jonas fronted DNCE and their smashing, vibrant debut with “Cake By The Ocean”, which has since leaped over the pond and enjoyed an official chart run amounting to 16 weeks now over here In the UK.

Where we once gave the Jonas Brothers the side-eye, they are now commanding figures in the pop genre, it took a band break-up to find their true footing of where they musically belong.

The same might be said of up-and-coming new artist (Evan) Blair, who under the more recognized pseudonym of DJ and producer Charlie Darker has enjoyed a silver served career with the kind of mentors coming on board in Wolfgang Gartner and MSTRKRFT, that most rookie producers could only but dream about. When it came to support Darker had the big names supporting him;- Tiesto, Zedd, Steve Aoki, Hardwell, David Guetta, Porter Robinson, but I guess at what you might consider the height of his successes he’s turned tack and hit back with a by far differently engaged sound.

A sound which alike Joe Jonas and DNCE taps into a by far similar to, electro indie-pop rich aesthetic.

In what amounts to days after debut of tracks “Five Past Ten” and “Liquid Courage” being unleashed, the dancy, guitar lit ditties have been making their presence rapidly felt by word-of-mouth through the blogosphere.

They might as well act as self pitching, because each of the hook filled tunes amount to offerings of incendiary pop lifted out of 80’s resonating vibes. I’m hazarding a guess that by-chance, perhaps Evan Blair was brought up on the wholly animated Americana pop music of the time, such as The B-52s, Talking Heads and The Go Go’s because there is a whole lot of this kind of band nostalgia all bubbling up in here.

Maroon 5 have made a more than a comfortable living out of it, and DNCE look set to do the same, maybe it’s not such a bad place for a pop newbie to be coming out from right now also.
