Ben Mitkus 1

We’ve only just gotten to know a little of Frans Jeppson-Wall through his part in this year’s Eurovision, and being cited as one of Sweden’s most promising new talents, but that doesn’t stop the Swedes from hitting back with an introduction to yet another of their rising-stars.

The fortunes could now be turning in favour for YouTuber and Swedish Idol 2014 contestant Ben Mitkus because as a result of these profile raising pursuits he’s just released his debut single “Kills Me” after becoming inked with Capitol Records Sweden.

Clearly the shift from YouTuber to recording artiste is considered a worthy investment. It’s not hard to see why Ben’s earned label backing when the track gets into full-flow, as definitely feeling some shades of early Eric Saade shining through on this jauntily melodic, pop bop. Not without mentioning the hinted nod in throwback style to that of the Backstreet Boys, just not the whole Nick, Kevin, AJ, Brian and Howie D thing!

It just seems to me that nowadays people view pop as having to be so many things. When actually it’s probably more the fact that we’ve lost sight of what pop always was. This being, just great tunes driven by huge melody and an ear pleasing vocal to boot.

Luckily for Ben Mitkus, he has this at his disposal in the love-stained, unabashed pop offering “Kills Me”.

What’s not to like when a song brings on a happy high, such as “Kills Me” does! Truth is, this just doesn’t happen enough, because it’s mainstay of providers in the whole boy/girl band concept has been thrown into disarray over the past few years. So don’t excuse me from hooking up with this kind of embodiment of pop right now, because it feels as though it’s all been swallowed up by a blackhole sucking the life out of planet pop as we once knew it. Anything that gives me cause to reflect and remember that pop did and still exists like this, makes my eyes shine like buttons!

Thanks to Scandipop for the tip.
