Eric Saade

We’ve long been promised a new album from Swedish heartthrob Eric Saade as hinted at by the singer for some considerable time.

So maybe after the chirpy “Girl From Sweden” release it has been that Eric lost his way for a while, because if truth be known that track bothered me a little, to the point that it was veering towards cheesy pop territory.

The expected album hasn’t materialized, instead Eric’s gone down the route of issuing an EP, which having listened through “Saade” heavily suggests by the experimentation of styles that a period of change is being sought.

The “Saade” EP sure does shift around a bit, although the one constant trait going through it seems is a notable swing towards an urban assisted electronic pop sound which as we know Eric has the falsetto strengths to see it through just like a Jonas Brother.

The current focus track release “Wide Awake” breaks into the dancehall pop vibe trend, that rears its head year on year, once summer is about to happen. Eric also sought the help of Gustaf Norén to add more of the rapping hip-pop swagger into the equation.

Strike me down in surprise, as I rather like where Eric has gone with this. Definitely of a more intense and maturer outlook all round and the melody is wholly groovalicious. Probably the biggest pop experiment that Eric has ever entered into and I can’t help but think that “Wide Awake” will be a stand alone effort in this style. Eric hasn’t made too bad a mess of it. It’s not about to go stratospheric as Major Lazer and DJ Snake’s “Lean On”.

The playing moody and tough and trashing his caravan in the video isn’t a bad thing either. It’s like ooh you nasty boy Eric, someone sure has angered you or is it that Eric just doesn’t like caravans!

Jokes aside, that look when Eric sparks up his lighter is one of intent to do damage and also screams sexy.
