In a year that has seen Glaswegian synth pop trio Chvrches concentrate upon promoting their 2013 debut album “The Bones of What you Believe” by international tours and performance, noting that the band now choose to release “Under The Tide” and have also facilitated a video comes somewhat unexpected, it has to be said.

Featuring the vocals of band member Martin Doherty with front-woman Lauren Mayberry taking a side-step over to backing vox duties, “Under The Tide” is perhaps one of the albums most 80’s spun efforts in that it reflects not only the sounds of the era but as akin to synth pop act M83 also channels a sci-fi panoramic heightened presence within.

Again in collaboration with director Sing J. Lee who was also responsible for overseeing the videos for “The Mother We Share” and “Lies”, the visuals for “Under The Tide” indulge in Anime animation and TRON inspired video graphics, complementing upon the aforementioned projected sci-fi panoramic wall of sound.

As it turns out new news from Chvrches has rolled in thick and fast of late, with highlights reaching us that the band are to play a part in the Hunger Games “Mockingjay” Soundtrack Part I with the inclusion of a new track titled “Dead Air”, whilst also contributing another new track “Get Away” to Zane Lowe’s newly curated soundtrack for the cult movie “Drive”.
