US Pop/Rock band Neon Trees have hardly got a look in of our attention in their career, just the briefest of mentions way too long ago.

A lot has happened with Neon Trees and front man Tyler Glenn of course, since we noted a track of theirs called “1983” had a glam rock beat and fighting energy about it, too uber cool in our estimation to ignore.

Lead singer Tyler Glenn has reached the roads of broaching a solo career with debut album “Excommunication” release imminently on the horizon. It’s come about with Tyler’s decision to not only ‘come out’ but to re-examine his Mormon upbringing as well. Two great big life choices to reevaluate and work though as accepting himself and the world about him identifying the singer songwriter for who is. “Excommunication” is a deeply personal account of this and it goes through many shifts of dark and light on its journey of hard hitting moments.

The album however, has a tight reign on a vibrantly pulsing electronic pop sound which at times holds no prisoners and at others is downright delivering sizzling synth-pop, hot stompers.

Wanting to give you an example of both, we’ve taken the liberty to highlight both ends of the album’s spectrum. The gritty and provocative “Shameless” video clip that explores the trauma and pent up turmoil felt in the darkest of times. Alongside the somewhat disco-tinged approach of the “Gates” which brings about a more accepting tone in both lyrical narrative and musicality.

Tyler has totally undergone an epiphany in every area of his life, but for us especially as electronic pop music lovers, the change-up in sound styling is simply the icing on the cake to our sate our enormous synth fed appetite.
