Once again, I literally didn’t know anything about Aminata, Latvia’s entry in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest, but I was seriously blown away.
Graham Norton described Aminata as a Sia wannabe, but after witnessing her perform ‘Love Injected’ to an international audience, I became an instant fan. There isn’t much of Sia here to be honest, what I saw was an original empowered female vocalist with a deep musicality, interesting cultural heritage (she has Russian and African roots) and a mystical wow factor that commanded my immediate attention.
I’ll be keeping my eye on Aminata. I hope her future work is as mesmerising as ‘Love Injected’. The world needs more powerful female voices like Aminata and I’m hoping she’ll continue to have a long and fruitful career in music.
