Remember if you will Cher Lloyd!
At one time the hype around her was so frenzied that if she merely cut the air with a sigh there would have been plenty claiming it was coolest thing they had heard. OK maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration on my part but miss thing from the X Factor was purported by many to be sassy, it’s just for us it all came together like a marmite and scotch bonnet club sandwich. All firey but leaving an after taste that we weren’t able to digest so greatly.
To give her, her due respect Cher did get better at whole lot better at rapping which, even though it was the catalyst that gave some quirky appeal it largely fell short of the mark. After a couple of OK songs “With UR Love” and “Want U Back” she vanished into the pop ether and we were informed she was working on new material.
We were beginning to think it was all some sort of rouse because it sure has been a while. However duly a single has arrived in “Activated” and a supporting video also.
Thing here is, in her return Cher impresses us in a whole new way she never managed to before. Truth be known she’s of course older and wiser, but mostly she’s got the reigns on the music she wants to make now. It shows greatly in this slinky, addicting beat driven number.
Strikes me Britney, would have been better encouraged to go in this direction too, instead of all the over groomed pop offerings she’s been coming out with, that you just can’t feel the substance behind.
There isn’t really much to see in the “Activated” video. However, it’s Cher putting on a performance and looking mighty purty with it!
It took a while to get here Cher. Authenticity suits you best. Don’t go letting us down gurlfriend by doing something outlandishly funky on your next single, because “Activated” rules as your best yet!
