gorgon city

Last week, I made the pilgrimage to Austin, Texas for the very first time to attend the new music mecca that is SXSW. Ever since arriving back in London on Tuesday, all of us at EQ Music Blog have been endlessly recounting our experiences at SXSW (all of which extremley positive) and we cannot wait to get our asses back there next year. Attending SXSW does cost a hefty penny, but believe us when we say this – it’s worth dropping the cash on, especially if you love new music as much as we do.

The first band I saw came courtesy of Spotify House in way of London-based electronic dance act Gorgon City. Having made quite an impact in the UK with their singles “Ready For Your Love” featuring MNEK and “Go All Night” featuring Jennifer Hudson, I was quite curious to see how these songs translated to the live experience. Needless to say – I wasn’t let down at all. The touring vocalists really delivered a powerhouse of a performance that brought a UK-centric electronic garage vibe to the afternoon stage which was drenched in sunlight and an unmistakable electric energy that only a duo like Gorgon City could deliver.

Having never seen the band live, I was quite intrigued at how Gorgon City would bring their stage show to life. There were moments in the performance that Matt & Kye graciously took that highlighted just how crafty they are with a set of synths. It’s not all about the vocals here folks, Gorgon City know how to impress with the coolest of knob fiddling and drum-machine kicks to achieve that one two punch that is needed in electronic shows.

As the very first act I saw at my very first SXSW, I knew that I had made a right decision by favoriting Gorgon City on the SXSW app – an essential tool for helping you navigate the immense amount of entertainment to be found at the world’s largest music festival and convention.

If you haven’t downloaded Gorgon City’s album “Sirens” yet, you need to get this on your mp3 player. It’s served as a happy reminder of one of the best show’s I got to see live this year.
