I couldn’t be happier to hear new material from Manchester’s Girl Friend! And I am quite quickly learning that their cup runneth over with penning out some seriously good electronic pop pieces.

On what I already considered the outfit have established with a firm vision on their debut releases of last year. The retro cut, sleekly gleaming disco noir has been expanded upon in going forward with subsequent releases, pertaining to an upcoming EP project releasing this March, and which takes on board collaborative energy in working with a variety of electronic producers and DJ’s.

The shift in sound is wholly apparent at first listen of the EP’s lead in track “Waste My Time”.

Previously defined by their crisp edged, indie lead synth-pop, Girl Friend change up dynamic by bringing on board LVTHER, allowing the producer to slather on a jaunty nu-disco hue of tropically filtered electro-funkiness.

Amory and Eleanor’s gossamer vocal exchanges provide the intoxicating familiar elixir that denotes all that we’ve come to know as Girl Friend thus far, and by striking a collaborative partner in LVTHER, (at least on this effort) come through tempered in bubbling sunny tones.

It’s a little as if, Girl Friend are leaving their hip to be cool attitude at the door and give in to an upbeat and glossier outlook, which suits them well, all the more.
