girl friend

When the unmistakable debonair vocals of Amory and Eleanor Neish-Melling cut the air, it can only mean one thing. Manchester pop noir outfit Girl Friend have new music out!

The signature sound template is of course, firmly in place right now. As the band have marched on with a quick procession of glossy synth-pop assisted singles, of which, have more often than not been at the source of our attention.

With a catalogue of indie-disco impregnated tracks behind them, Girl Friend aren’t about to move away from their winning formula of tales observed, out on the nightlife circuit of clubs, disco’s and wine bars. Along, with the characters they encounter, because the source must be an idea pot running over from one of the UK’s biggest cities and cultural hotspots.

As the band have just taken on probably their biggest show to date in support of Take That, at the British Summer Time Hyde Park Festival. The time is ripe for another Girl Friend pressing to make its way to the pop arena.

Exercising all that has gone before. On “Hello Stranger”, the band pipe up with melancholy stained electronics teamed with displaced narratives involved with matters of the heart. We see Girl Friend give out a brooding greeting as they run into an old flame, translating the awkwardness that ensues into a sonically steadfast tune of retro permeated grooviness.

It’s all very much another highly addicting dose of softly spun, electronic observed pop that comfortably sits well beside Girl Friend’s provocatively alluringly, storytelling.
