Since the start of the world renowned festival, the sound of the electro-world has been turned on its head. Now, each EDM artist has a flavor all their own. For one O R I O N, he has finally decided to step out from behind his high profile and attention grabbing remixes of top 40 artists to usher in a new era in EDM. One that is purely emotionally driven with his latest single ‘Gold Dust’ ft. Cammie Robinson.
Opening up with one of the most haunting piano progressions that the electro world has ever seen, ‘Gold Dust’ is bound to shake you to your core. Gentle synths carry Cammie Robinson’s rich vocals describing her pain and affirmation to know when it’s time to end a relationship to the forefront. Now, it’s easy within the EDM styled genre that the meaning behind a song can get lost behind the melody due to poor mixing. Yet, for this track in particular, O R I O N has applied a very even balance to really immerse you into the track. Due to the evenly keeled synth/piano to vocal ratio, you will feel your heart strings rip out of your chest when Cammie sings “Keeping you happy, takes up a lot of my time.”
This flavor of EDM as showcased by O R I O N really adds a new flair to an easily and overly stereotyped genre. It may not even be in the best interest to call it Electro Dance Music anymore. It’s dark without being too emotional. You’re not going to dance. It’s an element that makes it quite relaxing to listen to without being overly ambient. At the end of the night of hitting the town with your friends, it’s ‘Gold Dust’ that you’ll want to wind it down with.
