There aren’t many recording artists versatile enough to say that they’re as comfortable recording a traditional Jewish folk song as they are performing a live PA in one of the biggest nightclubs in the world – but then, there aren’t many people quite like Lauren Rose.

She’s blasted through stereotypes and accomplished incredible things in the short space of her career to date – not yet 30, she has already released albums, collaborated with major artistic talents and performed in venues all over the world.

It’s not bad for a girl who hails from Bromley, Kent. Keep reading to find out the lowdown on this up and coming artist, what she’s done so far and what’s next in store for this feisty frontrunner in the race to the top in British pop.

Making an impact

That Lauren Rose would have a career in performance was written in the stars from day one; not just because she attended Italia Conti, the exclusive and exceptional independent performing arts school which spawned talent including Sadie Frost and Russell Brand.

It’s safe to say that her beginnings weren’t exactly humble – her father Mark Goldberg once owned Crystal Palace Football Club (buying it for a cool £30 million) – but regardless of a privileged upbringing, Lauren has worked hard in the entertainment industry to reach her goal of becoming a singer.

At 15, a family member gave Lauren Rose the gift of a session in a recording session for her birthday, and it was while she was enjoying this gift that Lauren’s big break came along. Luckily for her, producer Ryan Laubascher overheard her singing, and blown away by the vocals, offered to help her record her self-written debut album.

Buoyed by this success, Lauren Rose began gigging in the pubs and clubs of London, making appearances in London’s exclusive Tiger Tiger and Cafe de Paris amongst others.

Hava Nagila

As a young woman of Jewish descent, Lauren Rose like many others had grown up with the song Hava Nagila at celebrations and family get togethers throughout her life.

It’s a very popular track in the Jewish community and is a traditional Jewish folk song often played at weddings, bar mitzvahs and bat mitzvahs, sung in the Hebrew language with much dancing, clapping and stamping of feet.

Although the song is generally thought to have been written almost a hundred years ago, around 1918, it’s still played today and Lauren Rose decided to record a version of the song as a present for a family member – but with a twist.

Hava Nagila (Baby Let’s Dance) is a twist on the classic song which involves a more modern arrangement and sections sung in English. The re-imagined Hava Nagila which Lauren Rose recorded in 2008 gained significant attention in the press as well as winning airplay and TV coverage, though not without some controversy over the changes made.

Thanks to her interest in her Jewish heritage and her regular performances at events in the Jewish community, Lauren was also invited to become the United Nations representative of the World Jewish Corps in Geneva. The World Jewish Corps is comprised of around 130 people of note in the Jewish community, who have been invited to take part in diplomatic and policymaking activities.

Dance music and Lauren Rose

While Hava Nagila (Baby Let’s Dance) remains a firm favourite at Jewish celebrations (especially Bar Mitzvahs and Bat Mitzvahs), Lauren Rose has more strings to her bow than most these days.

In 2010 she worked with the superstar DJ, Guru Josh, to provide vocals on the smash hit dance anthem, Frozen Teardrops. It was her first step into the world of dance music, and Lauren Rose hasn’t looked back since.

As a vocalist making Live PA appearances, she has sung in some of London’s biggest nightclubs and performed all over the world, from Ibiza to Egypt and everywhere in between.

She now performs as the lead vocalist for the GiGi Girls as well as her studio work; along with dancers, a keyboard player and a DJ she performs chart and dance hits in high end clubs and bars, to much critical acclaim.

If you’d like to book her for an upbeat live PA performance or a more chilled out acoustic set for your next event, then the Lauren Rose agent is London based celebrity agency MN2S.
