For anyone that believes that 2012 didn’t bring us any good quality electronic pop music, think again!
I always love the holiday season, for it’s the time of year where we get to relive and rank our favorite songs of the past twelve months, and for this year, 2012 was most certainly the year of the KIKI. Not only did Scissor Sisters entrance us with this viral club sensation from the very first listen, but they proved to us exactly why electronic pop is a genre that will never die as long as their remains creative innovators like Scissor Sisters around.
Other highlights of the year for EQ Music included a much improved version of Lana Del Rey’s “Video Games” by The Young Professionals, Mika’s Madonna track “Gang Bang”, the infectious “I Love It” by Icona Pop and Charli XCX as well as indie darlings Electrovamp and Parralox proving that you don’t need a major label to launch a major pop song.
From our neighbors in Russia and the Ukraine, superstars Sergey Lazarev and Max Barskih proved further that Eastern Europe is still churning out some of the most infectious new pop music while a new artist like Colette Carr can secretly slip an amazing album track like “Killswitch” to us under the radar. And well, the only song to actually make me cry like a river this year was “Outlaws Of Love” by Adam Lambert.
